Donnie Kennedy Decides Not To Run For President in 2004 |

Ladies and gentlemen of the South and lovers of liberty everywhere, I want to thank you all for your
kind words and support for the Kennedy for President exploratory movement. Not since Ron and I wrote 'The South Was Right" have I been more sure of our eventual victory over the forces of tyranny and anti South cultural bigotry than upon reading your messages of support for this effort. I am humbled by the depth and scope of that support. I understand that the support you offered was not so much for me as for OUR Cause. Ladies and gentlemen, that Cause will prevail! Not because of me or any book that has been written but because or your efforts. In the past 35 years I have watched as the Southern Rights Movement has grown to where it now stands. At one time (1970), you could have put all Southern activist into a V.W. bus and had room left over. Today, the SCV has over 35,000 members; the League of the South is charging forward for the cause of social, cultural, and political independence; several Southern Heritage organizations such as the H.P.A. and Southern Legal Resource Center are defending Southern Rights; and, various Southern Party organizations are placing our message before the voters of the South. We have come a long way, yet there is much more to do. One thing that must be done is to make a major push onto the political battlefield. If done right (and it MUST be done right), we will see the beginning of a real Southern Independence movement. One way that I feel this could be accomplished is by challenging the G.O.P. in Southern primaries, win delegates and go to the national G.O.P. convention with our Confederate flags. I had hoped that this could be done this year but unfortunately, I cannot arrange everything I need to "do the job right." Therefore, I must decline the many request to "take on the radical Republicans" at this time. I assure you my friends, this decision is due to my inability to get all my "ducks in a row." As I said, I will not be able to make such a campaign now but in three more years the playing field will be much better for me. In the past year, while working an average of 50 hours a week, I have traveled over 6,000 miles to no less than six states, spoken to many groups of Southerners, been interviewed on several radio stations, and participated in a French television documentary on the War and its causes. Let me assure you my friends, when I am freed from my professional obligations (three years from now), I will make the defense of liberty and the Cause of the South my full and lasting profession. With God's blessing and with your support, we will put Southern Rights on the political agenda of America. We will not allow our enemies to ignore our Cause and trample upon our Rights. In defense of real American liberty, I remain your friend and fellow defender of our Rights. Deo Vindice, Walter D. (Donnie) Kennedy |
